Mel Braun: Mel Braun, baritone, has a diverse career. He is familiar to audiences across Canada for his performances in opera, oratorio, and recital. Frequent appearances and broadcasts with Tafelmusik and Opera Atelier have showcased his facility in early music, but he has also premiered numerous contemporary works with Winnipeg's Groundswell, Toronto's New Music Gallery, and with the Banff Centre. In recital, he has been particularly acclaimed for his interpretations of Schubert, Wolf, and Schoenberg. As a conductor, he spent four years as Artistic Co-Director of the Winnipeg Singers. Among the many projects undertaken with this 24-voice ensemble was a recording of new choral works by Manitoba composers entitled "Prairie Voices". Mel is an Associate professor of Voice at the School of Music, University of Manitoba, where he also directs the Opera Workshop. Many of his students have gone on to professional careers as singers. He and his wife Lynne have three children. |
